Not worried about mice in your home? You might want to rethink that? At 3 weeks old, a mouse is considered mature and ready to do damage in your home. At just 6 weeks old, a female mouse is ready to reproduce with up to 10 litters a year.
One female mouse can provide between 5-10 litters annually with each litter consisting of 5 to 12 young which are able to breed at approximately 30 days-of-age. That means you can have an entire colony of mice quickly. The mouse gestation period is approximately 20 days so mice create a great number of young. Breeding is year-round.
Just ONE pair of mice in your home can produce hundreds of mice in a very short period of time. Mice that find a cozy indoor space can live between 2 to 3 years.
Destroy your home
Mice crawl into your home’s walls and attic. While they are there, they chew on wires with full access to your household electrical wiring. Once a wire becomes bare, the chance of it sparking a fire increases dramatically. Mice can also chew through drywall, soft concrete, wood (structure and furniture), rubber, plastic pipes, insulation, aluminum, and even gas lines.
“Their constant gnawing damages property. This has caused power outages, Internet blackouts, computer crashes, fires and human deaths. It is estimated that 25 percent of all fires attributed to “unknown causes” are probably started by rodents gnawing on gas lines, electrical wiring and matches,” according to Illinois Department of Public Health.
Mice can be full of disease and are disease carriers. Your family could be at serious risk by ignoring the infestation even for just a few days. The more the rodents continue to breed, the higher the chances of infecting humans or pets with one of these diseases
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention state that the following diseases are directly transmitted by rodents:
