Insect Spotlight – Christmas Beetle

The Christmas beetle is a name applied to the Australian and South African beetle genus Anoplognathus. These beetles are known as the Christmas Beetle because it usually arrives in abundance near Christmas time. They feed on eucalypt leaves, roots of crops and grass causing  yellow patches in the grass.
